Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Introduction

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued an emergency temporary standard (ETS) to protect healthcare workers from contracting coronavirus. The standard focuses on healthcare workers most likely to have contact with someone infected with the virus. OSHA announced the new Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) alongside new general industry guidance, both of which are aligned with Centers for Disease Control guidance. See if your company or organization is covered by the ETS.

The healthcare ETS applies, with some exceptions, to settings where any employee provides healthcare services or healthcare support services. The ETS is aimed at protecting workers facing the highest COVID-19 hazards—those working in healthcare settings where suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients are treated. This includes employees in hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities; emergency responders; home healthcare workers; and employees in ambulatory care facilities where suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients are treated.

The purpose of this course is to familiarize employers and plan coordinators with the general requirements of 1910.502, Healthcare, to best develop and implement a COVID-19 Plan.
